What happens when a load is cancelled, and how detention pay works. Every fee here is paid by the dispatcher and goes to the driver in full. LocalHaul takes no commission on fees.

Cancellation fees

"Box truck" means a box truck load. "Semi" means a tractor-trailer load. The amounts in effect when a driver is assigned are locked on that load, so a later change never affects a load already assigned.

A load with no scheduled pickup time is treated as less than 24 hours away.

Detention pay

Two hours free

At every stop, pickup or delivery. The clock starts at the later of when the driver arrives or the appointment time, so arriving early doesn't start it early.

Then hourly

See current amounts in the app for box trucks, See current amounts in the app for semis. Billed in 15-minute increments, rounded up.

Up to 6 hours per stop

Detention stops at 6 billable hours per stop. At the first pickup, the dispatcher can then release the driver with the arrived fee plus capped detention.

Running late

If a driver hasn't arrived 30 minutes after the end of the pickup window (or the appointment time, if there's no window end), the dispatcher can cancel for free. A driver who arrives that late at any stop gets no detention at that stop.

Reliability

LocalHaul keeps track of late releases (a driver backing out with less than 24 hours before pickup) and no-shows (a late cancellation where the driver didn't message the dispatcher in the app before the window ended). A driver who backs out within 15 minutes of accepting isn't counted, unless pickup is less than 2 hours away. Three or more in 30 days flags the account for review by LocalHaul staff.

Charges are based on what the app records: arrival times, timestamps and photos. If you believe the app recorded something incorrectly, contact support in the app.
